State Farm® Insurance Agent Marc Plamondon

"This is a late review but something I still think about to this day. In fact, I was describing the event to my husband and he encouraged me to review because of how absurd it was. I went into this State Farm office after moving. I had recently gotten off my family discount plan, or whatever State Farm calls it. Essentially a multi -car discount with my family and now I was living alone. I had one fender bender that had been resolved. The conversation started, I kid you not, by the woman who took me in to discuss my insurance plan recommending that I get a firearm because of NH’s “lax” firearm laws. So strange of a recommendation, but also inappropriate, sexist and tone-deaf. After that, she proceeded to take a deep breath and tell me “how bad” my costs would be but that she “might” have a solution. The solution ended up being a bundle plan that I didn’t need but also didn’t understand at 23 years old. It included rental insurance, which I already paid for at my apartment, and life insurance. While I can ultimately appreciate that “everyone” can benefit from life insurance, it definitely wasn’t necessary for that period of my life. It was offered to me through work, so I did have a version of life insurance already. Anyways, because I was so young I didn’t need to get an at-home test for life insurance - I only needed to fill out a survey. I answered honestly, including saying I drank alcohol a few times per week. This response ended up making the premium higher. When I later talked to the sales rep about this, she told me something along the lines of “while I’d never encourage you to lie, you might have wanted to ‘fudge your responses’”. Unethical to say the least! About a year later, when I was older and wiser, I called the office to cancel the bundle because I realized I really just needed car insurance. The cancellation needed to be escalated to Marc. He called me back directly and essentially screamed at me that I was making a poor decision and said he “barely made any money off my bundle”. Instead of hearing me, the client, out, he made assumptions about me (e.g. “you’ll have kids someday what will use this” instead of asking if I even want kids). Ultimately, I don’t have an issue with State Farm. I’ve worked with other great agents. But Marc’s office is never one I would return to. At the time I visited it was politically charged (the firearm recommendations, which were strange to begin with), and assumed a lot about my future life aspirations without asking the necessary questions. 0/10 recommend."
